ABOUT

"We spend a good bit of our childhoods wishing we were big, only to get there and long for those magical days of youth. With these works, I wanted to offer a path back to those analog days -- to show that wonderful, invisible layer that exists -- immediate, crude, and unencumbered by the background noise of our everyday lives." -- Matt Tripodi.

It wasn’t until moving to New York in 2007, at age 25, that my eyes were first opened to the possibilities that existed in and around the arts.  There I met my wife, and the circle of artists who are now my closest friends.  It took time to acclimate to that new life, and cultivate the knowledge, content and, ultimately, confidence to produce work of my own.  And so, as a bit of a late-bloomer, I began painting in earnest in the summer of 2018.  With no formal artistic education, I went the self-taught route by way of trial and error, experimentation, marriage, studio assistance, and general immersion in the art community.  My work most often seeks to find small instances of universal human experience: the darkly humorous, the familiar frustration, the funny but not funny in-between zone. -- Matt Tripodi

Benjaming McQuillan is an interdisciplinary artist and educator living and working in Denver. From the artist: I made this to lay across the highway. A flick out the window. Here it is in the gallery. I really hope you enjoy it with these wonderful paintings.
