About

ABOUT
For Denver's 2024 Month of Printmaking in March, Alto Gallery is happy to present Feral Fantastic, an exhibition of printed works from five artists, based on the general theme of wild animals and nature expressed in imaginative ways. Featuring Colorado-based printmakers Erin Jones, Johanna Mueller, Megan Parker, Miriam Dubinsky, and Virginia Diaz Saiki.

Erin Jones
Local painter and printmaker, Erin Jones, uses the Feral Fantastic theme to investigate outlandish connections between animals and humans through numerous highly experimental printmaking processes, including Tetra Pak intaglio.

Johanna Mueller
Enhanced by printmaking’s history of narrative, my work explores the shared histories of humans, as told by animals. These compositions are full of animals within animals, a reference to animal cognition and spirits within animal bodies. Personal narrative is woven with mythical symbols and stories which make these pieces both familiar and challenging. Animals have no race, religion, or creed, can be as easily feminine as masculine or somewhere in between. Therefore, they can tell universal stories which weave anthropology, art history, and spirituality – our shared humanness – better than their human counterparts. In our ever changing and sometimes frightful present day, we need to be reminded of the universality of all things, including the human race.

Megan Parker
Megan grew up making art in the mountains of North Carolina. After studying at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Yeditepe Üniversitesi in Turkey, she earned her BFA with a concentration in Design in 2008. She currently lives in Fort Collins working as a web designer and is a member of the printmaking co-op Mad Deer Press. Megan enjoys making narrative prints inspired by Appalachian folklore, Medieval art, and good ol’ fashioned animal skulls.

Miriam Dubinsky
I am a printmaker and painter located out of Lakewood, Colorado running my own small art business. I make hand-printed screen prints using imagery from my ink paintings and drawings and I recently have been working on a new set of collage and original gouache paintings.

Virginia Diaz Saiki
Virginia is a Peruvian-born printmaker and interdisciplinary artist living and working in Colorado. For Feral Fantastic, Virginia presents a selection of beautifully textured collagraphs from 2015.
