ABOUT
Blue Giant explores a moment of expansion when growth becomes unavoidable and the work begins to push beyond its own boundaries.

This body of work marks a shift from abstraction into silhouette and defined figures, building a visual language rooted in Black identity and the African diaspora. Through layered surfaces, texture, and contrast, each piece holds a tension between what is seen and what is felt, forming a space that is both personal and collective.

The title draws from a star entering its blue giant phase, a period of intensity, scale, and transformation. That same energy carries through the work as it stretches outward into something more immersive and fully realized.

Blue Giant reflects a turning point in the practice, where familiar elements are expanded and reworked into a new visual language.

BIO
Johnny Draco is a Denver-based artist whose work explores identity, perception, and the construction of self through stylized figures, masks, and abstraction. Born in 1991 and raised in Atlanta, his practice draws from personal experience and influences across the African diaspora, translating them into bold, high-contrast compositions.

Working across painting, mural, and design, Draco builds layered surfaces that balance control and spontaneity, often using silhouette and form to create space for interpretation. His work has been exhibited in galleries and public spaces, and continues to evolve through an ongoing exploration of texture, material, and immersive experience.
